Influence of age and sex on high-fat diet-induced increase in blood pressure.

چکیده
We are studying to elucidate the reason for increase in age-related hypertension and the mechanism thereof using rats. We would like to introduce model animals and the results obtained from these animal experiments. Based on a study regarding whether the elevation of blood pressure caused by dietary fat is due to excessive calorie intake and resulting body-weight gain or else fat itself--if so which type of fat is responsible for elevating blood pressure, it was suggested that elevated blood pressure was due to some effects specific to animal fat. According to a study if insulin resistance involves elevated blood pressure, it became apparent that the build-up of visceral fat caused by high-fat diet together with worsening of insulin sensitivity were responsible for elevating blood pressure. Next, we studied if there are sexual differences in dietary-fat induced hypertension and influence of male hormone. It became clear that the mechanism of elevated blood pressure caused by high-fat diet involved a condition of insulin resistance due to high-fat diet and furthermore, only when testosterone was present, the blood pressure was elevated. In addition, we studied aging effects on hypertension due to dietary fat. As a result, it became clear that the older the person gets, more likely he/she suffers from visceral obesity and conditions of insulin resistance, making blood pressure proneto rise. In summary, even without having excessively high calorie diet and without body weight gain, intake of excessive animal fat will cause visceral obesity and so do hypertension. Also, when taking high-fat diet, males tend to suffer from hypertension more often than females, suggesting testosterone is involved as the cause. Further, it was shown that the older the persons are, the greater the dietary effects result in, causing their blood pressures likely to increase.

Obesity causes many problems such as cardiovascular and chronic kidney diseases. The aim of this study was to evaluate the efficacy of retinoic acid and atorvastatin co-administration in kidneys protection against high-fat diet induced damage. Twenty-five male Wistar rats (200.00 ± 20.00 g) were divided into five groups: 1) Control (standard diet), 2) High-fat diet (cholesterol 1.00%, 75 days),...
متن کاملThe effect of aerobic exercise on epicardial adipose tissue, insulin resistance, and some liver enzymes in high-fat diet-induced obesity male wistar rat
Background and Aim: Due to the prevalence and socio-economic consequences of obesity in mortality, cardiovascular (CAD) and nonalcoholic fatty liver disease the effectiveness of aerobic exercise on epicardial adipose tissue (EAT), insulin resistance (IR) and some liver enzymes of high-fat diet-induced obesity male wistar rats was investigated. Methods: Thirty-two male Wistar rats with an averag...
متن کاملEffects of Endurance Training on the Expression of Cathepsin B (CTSB) and Cathepsin L (CTSL) genes in the Adipose Tissue of Mice with a High-Fat Diet
Introduction: In high-fat diet-induced obesity, the levels of cathepsin L (CTSL) and cathepsin B (CTSB) increase in adipocytes, resulting in insulin resistance in the adipose tissue. In this study, the preventive effect of endurance training on the gene expression of CTSL and CTSB was investigated in the adipose tissue of mice with a high-fat diet. Materials and Methods: Twenty-one male mice (a...

Introduction. The aim of this study was to investigate the effects of high fat diet-induced obesity and interval and continuous exercise training on visceral fat SIRT1 and insulin resistance in male rats. Method. Forty male rats were divided into two groups: high-fat diet (HFD; n=32) and standard diet (C; n=8). After 10 weeks inducing obesity, eight rats from the HFD and C groups were sacrifi...
متن کاملThe effects of losartan on memory performance and leptin resistance induced by obesity and high-fat diet in adult male rats
Objective(s): Leptin is a hormone secreted by adipose tissue and is involved not only in the regulation of feeding and energy expenditure, but also its role in memory enhancement has been demonstrated as well. The partial transfer of leptin across the blood-brain barrier in obese individuals causes leptin resistance and prevents leptin reaching brain. On the other hand, studies have show...
